The Kounsar lake, which is 4000 metres above sea level and situated in the Panjal mountains south of Kashmir, is frozen throughout the summer. The roughly 3-kilometer-long Kaunsarnag lake supplies water to the Vishav. Below Bijbehara, it merges with the Jhelum.
