Visit Nagin Lake in Srinagar, Kashmir

Nigeen Lake, also known as Nageen Lake, is a somewhat eutrophic lake located near Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, India. It periodically appears to be a part of the Dal lake and is connected to it via a strait. Additionally, it includes a river called Nallah Amir Khan that joins the lakes of Khushal Sar and Gil Sar.

Many willow and poplar trees line the Nigeen lake’s perimeter. As a result, it has earned the nickname “nageena,” which means “the jewel in the ring.” A regional spelling of the same word is “nigeen”.

About Nagin Lake

To the west of the Dal lake, the lake is situated close to the Hari Parbat hilltop. The area of Hazratbal, which is famed for its shrine, is to the area’s northeast.

The lake, a famous tourist destination in Srinagar, is renowned for its cleaner waters than the Dal lake. Shikaras and houseboats are frequently seen. Due to its depth and lack of crowds compared to Dal Lake, it is also excellent for swimming.

A branch extending from the Dal Lake is the Nagin Lake in Kashmir. At the base of the mountain Zabarwan, to the east of the city, is where you’ll find Nagin Lake. There are some willow and poplar trees surrounding Nageen Lake. This lake has a lovely perspective because of how these trees reflect in the water. The Nagin Lake in Kashmir is surrounded by Hari Parbat on the west and Shankaracharya hill (Takht-e-Suleiman) on the south, making for a lovely scene. A noteworthy aspect of the lake is the shikaras, which transport visitors to and from the lake. At the lake, bathing boats, water skis, and motor launches can all be rented.

Visit Nagin Lake

Nagin is a good area to find a house boat and do it if one really wants to escape the hectic city life; the surroundings are considerably more tranquil and remote than on Dal Lake. From the nearby camping area, one can rent rowboats to explore the lake or search for a houseboat.

Amusements

Nagin’s water is deeper and less contaminated than other areas, making it a suitable place to swim. There are also water-skiing facilities and fibreglass sailing boats that can be rented. Despite their best efforts, motorboats are quite underpowered for skiing. Keep a watchful look out for swimmers if one wants to try water skiing. In the same way, swimmers should be cautious of boat drivers.

On the lakeside, there is a bar and a tea pavilion at the Nagin club. Temporary membership is offered to guests at this club, which is a division of the Srinagar club.

Nigeen Lake Highlights

The most sacred mosque and shrine for Muslims in Kashmir are found in Srinagar, on the Dal Lake’s banks, at the Hazratbal Shrine. The pearly-white mosque is home to the Moi-e-Muqqadas artefact, which is thought to be a sacred hair from the Prophet Muhammad’s beard. Only on special occasions is the hair displayed to the public.
