About Doodhpathri

The word “doodhpathri” translates to “Valley of Milk.” It also stated that the famed Kashmiri saint Sheikh ul Aalam Sheikh Noor din Noorani worshipped here, and once, when he was looking for water in the meadows to offer prayers, he punctured the earth with his stick to look for water, and milk poured out.

He inquired about the milk used for drinking and not for ablution. Due to this, upon hearing this, milk turned into water. Since then, the meadow has been named Doodhpathri.

The gleaming stream passing over the vast stones adds to its allure. Up to Chang, Doodhpathri is a rolling, grassy environment with various multicolored flowers. The well-known Tosamaidan is to the west of Doodhpathri.

Best Time to Visit Doodhpathri

Doodhpathri is in the Pir Panjal Range of the Himalayas, at 2,730 m (8,957 ft) above sea level. It is an alpine valley with snow-capped mountains, pine fir, and deodar meadows.

When should you plan to go to Doodhpathri?

Tourist Attractions to Visit in Doodhpathri

The beautiful green meadows in summer, covered with snow in winter, are the main attractions of Doodhpathri. The Sukhnag and Shaliganga rivers cut their way through the meadows. The highest reaches of the Pir Panjal range are where glacial water originates for both rivers. 

Shaliganga River

The Shaliganga River runs on one side of the valley, and a pony ride from the parking area will take you there. You can also go for a walk by yourself. It is a downhill slope that takes around an hour to reach. Mujhpathri is on the opposite bank of the river.

Tangnar:

Tangnar can be found immediately before Doodhpathri. After passing through Raiyar, the last place on the trip where you may find a few places to stay for the night, the road begins to wind higher, and after 10 minutes, you will see forests on one side and a magnificent valley on your right. Mujhpathri:

Mujhpathri, or the Turnip Valley, is located on the bank of the Shaliganga River. The distance from Doodhpathri is around 3 kilometres.

Palmaidan:

Palmaidan is on the bank further upstream from the Shaliganga River and is frequently visited by local shepherds to pasture their livestock in the summer. It is around 5 kilometres from Doodhpathri. Deodar and pine forests surround the valley. 

Diskhal:

Dishkal is 10 kilometres from Shaliganga; you can visit it on foot. It’s a lovely meadow at the top of the mountain with a view of the Ashtaar glacier. It offers a breathtaking view of the Ashtaar glacier and is surrounded by deodar and pine forests.
