The trip to Tarsar Marsar demonstrates why Kashmir is considered “heaven on earth.” Tarsar and Marsar are two snow-fed lakes in the heart of Kashmir’s lush green meadows and Dachigam National Park. Musk deer, Snow leopards, Himalayan serow, and other animal species can be found in this national park. Some bird species in these areas include the Golden Oriol, Himalayan Monal, Cinnamon Monal, and others. The journey begins with the magnificent Tarsar Lake and Sundersar Lake.

These two spectacular lakes provide some of the most amazing views, but the best part is that one gets to camp just next to these serene blue lakes. Next up on this path is the Marsar Lake which is almost always covered with clouds, always providing those dramatic views. Marsar Lake is at a lower altitude, and one gets a visual from up top, but it is amazing how the clouds fill in every day, and one has to reach this lake as early as possible and experience these dramatic views. It is recommended that one should hire guides and porters as this is a very long trail.
