Shah Jahan, however, ordered the halting of the water supply to the garden after Asif Khan failed to make an offer. Asif Khan was devastated to learn that the garden had been unattended for some time. He was taking a nap under a tree one day when one of his devoted staff turned on the water supply from Shalimar Bagh. Asif Khan instantly gave the order to halt the water flow out of concern for Shah Jahan’s anger for those who disobeyed his commands. When Shah Jahan learned of the bravery displayed by the servant of Khan, he decided not to punish him. In reality, he commended the servant for his faithful dedication to his master and gave the go-ahead for a complete repair of the water supply. The layout of the garden is based on the fundamental idea of Persian gardens, which is part of Nishat Bagh’s design.
